It is that time of year again when we host the 8th Fresh Olives Cooking Competition and find out who will be the winners of our award-winning apprenticeship programme and begin their culinary journey with the Entier Family.
Held at our bespoke Training Academy here at the Olive House, we had 5 Finalists this year competing to be placed as our newest Fresh Olives.
This year our finalist came from across Aberdeen City and Shire and participating from Mackie, Harlaw, Inverurie and Portlethen Academies. But unfortunately, there could only be 2 winners. Amidst stiff competition, our 5 finalists took part in a technical egg challenge creating various egg dishes, and sauces, some of which were very complex. We were absolutely blown away by the standard demonstrated by all pupils, but we are delighted to announce that this Year’s Winners are:
• Dean Davidson from Mackie Academy
• Leon Wilson from Harlaw Academy
Both pupils were delighted to have won and can’t wait to begin their culinary journey with the Entier family.
The judging panel consisted of Alisdair Macsween, Entier’s Executive Chef, George McIvor, Chairman of The Master Chefs of Great Britain and Lesley Officer, Director of HR. George has supported the Fresh Olives Apprenticeship programmes and affiliated Culinary Competitions for the past eight years running and said extremely impressed with the standard of cooking this year and commended all the finalists, encouraging those who were not successful to continue in their aims to break into the catering industry.
Adding to this, George commented “the future of our industry depends on the efforts we, as established, professional Chefs, give back, each and every day. Our conduct, skill and ability to share knowledge with the young upcoming chefs will make a difference, sustain the future and carry over a classical and historic tradition.”
George also added “Entier is leading the way in the most honourable way. They invest in the training and development of young catering and hospitality professionals. Supporting them at each step during the programme, Entier ensure that the apprentices’ best interest is always the priority. Entier further support their Fresh Olives by guaranteeing them employment upon completion of their apprenticeship finding the best suitable position for them within the Entier Group. I am immensely proud to be associated with The Fresh Olive programme and Entier as a business. The future looks even brighter now for our industry, and the Fresh Olives.”
Our two winners will soon begin their 3-year apprenticeship with Entier learning from the award winning talent already within our organisation. Well done boys!
